“I loved every part of the festival that I attended. It was educational, inspiring, challenging and joyful.”
DanceLive is an annual festival celebrating contemporary dance, and is Scotland’s only festival exclusively presenting contemporary dance. The Festival aims to present the best contemporary dance in the North East, and to provide a platform for new work, particularly that of local choreographers and dancers, whilst raising the profile of contemporary dance and engaging with audiences of all ages. The Festival was recognised in Creative Scotland’s Dance Sector Review and won Creative Cultures Scotland Award for Best Festival 2012 (public vote).
“The quality of the shows in this festival was stunning. A blend of different dance styles and something for everyone.”
DanceLive presents a programme of work from large scale to studio sharings, from national and international companies, including cutting edge new work, showing critically acclaimed contemporary dance that otherwise would not be programmed in Aberdeen and/or Scotland and programming for new and family audiences, as well as providing opportunities for people to engage and take part through an associated programme of film, talks, school and community workshops and masterclasses. Live music has always been an important element of the Festival and we prioritise work that includes live music.
The festival showcases new dance talent through a programme of studio performances of new work by emerging choreographers and a platform for work produced by Citymoves and work commissioned from local dancers, choreographers and companies.
DanceLive is raising the profile of new contemporary dance, creating performance opportunities for innovative and exciting companies, and engaging with and developing informed and inspired audiences.
