"Reclaiming a space that is always, somehow, one step ahead"
The Wire 2015

“A glorious monstrosity of industrial dub and panicky pop. These ballsy Bristolians are just as chaotic and system-defiling as they were when they first set the world on fire three decades ago” 18/20
Crack Magazine 2015

“It still fizzes with a life that most young bands today just don’t have.”
Paul Epworth 2014

The Pop Group have announced details of a UK tour in May. The dates follow the February 23rd release of their first album in 35-years, Citizen Zombie.

Produced by the much-acclaimed Paul Epworth, a long-time fan of The Pop Group, the new album features original members Mark Stewart (lyrics / vocals), Dan Catsis (bass), Gareth Sager (guitar) and Bruce Smith (drums).

The UK tour comes after March dates in Japan, New Zealand, Australia and North America culminating at SXSW. The full list of UK dates is as follows:

MAY
5 Brighton The Haunt
6 Norwich Arts Centre
8 London The Dome Tufnell Park
9 Sheffield Plug
10 Glasgow CCA Arts Centre
11 Liverpool Kazimier

The Pop Group formed in Bristol in 1977 out of a sense of disenchantment with the increasing conservatism of punk and released their Dennis Bovell debut album, Y, in 1979. Their second album, For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? arrived in 1980 before the band imploded in the same year.

Reforming in 2010, the band have played festivals across the globe including Summer Sonic, Primavera and OFF, and recently completed a 7-date UK tour in support of the reissued We Are Time and new archival compilation Cabinet Of Curiosities in 2014.

“One of the most important British bands of the 1970s, the [Oct 2014] gig provided evidence of their continuing relevance…they’re actually better at it than they used to be back in the day.”
Richard Williams
