BOSTON BAY SHARPIE SPRINT SERIES
February 1, racing starting at 12 noon
With the recent resurrection of the sharpie class in Port Lincoln the club has decided to host an inaugural sprint series event on the waters of Boston Bay to help continue promoting the class in Port Lincoln.
We've chosen Feb 1 as it does not clash with any club sailing or community events. It will be a great opportunity for sailors of all ages to get on board and experience sharpie sailing.
The format will most likely be a short windward/leeward course with around 6-8 races (weather permitting) out the front of the club, which will make for great spectating. A champion will be crowned and prizes given for the top three boats.
Even if you're not sailing, come on down for some great spectating and a few drinks to experience what fast-paced sharpie sailing is all about.
We understand our Adelaide counterparts may not be able to make it over for the racing but we extend the invitation to them regardless. We also want to invite our friends up the coast at Tumby Bay who we hear have a few old long boats floating around in sheds looking far too dry and also those in the far west at Ceduna who may even have a few wrecks hanging around from the famous '89 nationals.
Also to the eight boat owners in Port Lincoln, you have no excuse not to get the boat out. Make sure you're there to join in the fun and help grow the class.
The downstairs bar will be open after sailing for a few celebratory beverages and there will also be a sausage sizzle so stick around for the presentations and enjoy what should be a ripping day on the water.
If you want to get on a boat call Harry Fisher on 0431102417 and hopefully he can set something up for you.
SHARPIES IN PORT LINCOLN: SALES PITCH.
After many years of sharpies being dormant in Port Lincoln and only five boats in the town at the start of 2014 simply sitting in sheds for most of the year, the class has now increased to eight sharpies that have all been on the water so far this season. There is also word on the street of more on the way. The fleet is also very strong nationally with 40-60 boat fleets a regular occurrence at national level. Some great boats have come up for sale so it is a great opportunity to get involved in a competitive, enjoyable, bang-for-your-buck class. There really is no better time to be campaigning a sharpie!
