No prizes for spotting it's not the calmest weather today – but it's a 6.05pm high tide, and that wind's due to veer NW, so it should be perfect for another of our legendary downwinders! This time, with a falling tide and westerly wind, it's from Old Leigh to Thorpe Bay. Meeting at 6.45 in the car-park under Belton Bridge in Old Leigh (postcode SS9 2ER) we're aiming to launch promptly at 7pm after a quick briefing. As ever, leashes are compulsory, and this week a bit of neoprene might be wise too... Conditions could potentially get a little lairy, although if that wind veers as forecast we could strike lucky with a solid tail-wind over flattish water. If you're going to be late, get in at Chalkwell and make sure we know you're on the water with us. We're aiming to get out by the coastguard station about 90 minutes later (c. 9km) and then troop across the road to the Shorehouse pub (SS3 9HQ) for a drink. Tonight might be a good night for inflatables, as we can probably stuff them into taxis back to the start. Or liaise amongst yourselves to drop vehicles at the finish – just don't be late for the launch! No hire kit tonight, and capable paddlers only (but don't panic, it's not Armageddon, if you paddle with us regularly you should be fine on this one!)
